Casa Belle Epoque Honda
Honda was a key river port during colonial times, when paddle-steamers plied the river carrying goods and passengers along what was the main communication artery - the River Magdalena. Honda is about a four hour drive from Bogota, down, out of the mountains into the hot, lushly vegetated valley of the Rio Magdalena. Casa Belle Epoque is a charming small hotel in the historic part of Honda.
What's so special about Casa Belle Epoque?
This characterful, 10 room hotel is set in a restored Republican style mansion, decorated in an early 20th century Art nouveau style (La Belle Epoque). The hotel has a welcoming, homely feel with excellent service. The hot climate and history of the area combined with the relaxing atmosphere make this a great place to spend a few days.
Facilities of the hotel
There are a number of areas to sit and relax, including a library and terraces with hammocks and rocking chairs. There is a pleasant, small pool and a jacuzzi. Throughout the hotel there are plants and tropical flowers.
The 10 rooms are simple, confortable and clean. All have private bathrooms and a fan. Some also have air-conditioning and a balcony.
Activities that can be arranged include kayaking on the Rio Magdalena, walking tours of the town, horse-riding and trips with the local fishermen. Itineraries can be arranged combining Bogota, Rio Claro and Medellin, and well as Los Nevados National Park or the Coffee Country. Please enquire for more details.
Highlights included? lying by the pool in the restored Art Nouveau hotel in Honda with a humming bird flying into the flowers while a vulture watched from a neighbouring wall, visiting the eco-lodge tree house there and learning to do traditional fishing... E Lewis, August 2013
