Polar Arctic

Arctic Holidays and Arctic Cruises

The Arctic isn't so much a place as an idea. It's not a continent, a country, even an island - just the contents of a circle drawn on a map, empty of big cities, tall forests or soaring mountains. Yet, there is something truly special about this place of polar bears, icebergs, whales, and mysterious lights.

The Arctic offers some truly unique travel experiences. Though most commonly visited by expedition cruise, there is also the possibility of polar bear viewing from lodges in Canada. Cruises take the form of "general" Arctic cruises which aim to see a range of landscapes and wildlife, and more specialist trips, focusing on a particular animal (for example whales or polar bears), offering activities such as sailing and ski-mountaineering, or seeking the northern lights.

On a cruise, a typical day in the Arctic will see you making a couple of landings or zodiac tours, often one in the morning and one in the afternoon. There are often onboard lectures from your expert guides on their particular field of interest. There can be a lot to see just from the deck of your ship.
