Tailor-made Holidays to the Galapagos Islands

Follow in the footsteps of Charles Darwin, with a visit to one of the best wildlife destinations on the planet. Ecuador's Galapagos islands are home to a plethora of seabirds, reptiles and marine creatures. Swim with sea lions, see penguins on the Equator, spot giant tortoises, iguanas and lizards. The landscape is beautiful too, with rugged volcanoes, mangroves and sandy beaches.

The Galapagos Islands lie about 600 miles off the coast of mainland Ecuador, in the Pacific Ocean. These beautiful islands are populated by animals and plants that over millennia have evolved to perfectly match their unique environment. Huge numbers of sea lions are spread throughout the archipelago. Boobies, flamingos, finches, albatross and frigate birds are some of the most easily spotted birds. Fur seals are present too, as are giant tortoise and large iguanas. In the waters, there is excellent snorkelling and diving, you will see rays, sharks and numerous fish species.

The most popular way to visit the Galapagos is to fly from mainland Ecuador then spend several days cruising around the islands on a choice of vessels. However, this is not the only way - we can arrange stays in hotels or guesthouses with daily excursions, these land-based trips could see you walking, snorkelling, biking and kayaking your way around the Galapagos.

If you are looking to see some of the less visited parts of the Galapagos, want an active trip with walking, kayaking, snorkelling and biking, a land-based visit to the Galapagos could suit you. If you have a special interest in a particular aspect of the Galapagos, this could also be the way to travel. Four of the islands - Santa Cruz, San Cristobal, Isabela and Floreana offer accommodation. By spending a few nights on a number of islands and taking day excursions (both on land and sea) you can get an excellent insight into the Galapagos. The excursions can be either private or in small groups and can be adapted to suit you, offering more flexibility than a cruise. An excellent option is to combine a cruise with a land-based trip.

We offer a range of accommodation on the Galapagos. There are four islands you can stay on - Santa Cruz is the most populated and has the widest choice; many cruises start and finish here you this is a good place to send a few days before or after your cruise relaxing. San Cristobal is the start and end point for some cruises and has a few small hotels. The town of Puerto Villamil on Isabela is great base for a few days - to reach Isabela you need to travel to Santa Cruz/Baltra first and from there take another flight or speed boat transfer. There is a large range of vessels operating in the Galapagos. We've carefully selected some of the best to suit different preferences and budgets. Smallest boats take around 14 passengers, with the largest accommodating up to 100 passengers. Smaller boats will suit those who are looking for personalised service and an intimate atmosphere. Larger boats suit those who seek more space and facilities, or those who suffer from sea-sickness. Size does not necessarily determine price, and there are a range of comfort levels available for all sizes of ship.

On a cruise, a typical day in the Galapagos will see you making a couple of landings on the islands, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Landings can be wet or dry and are usually made from inflatable boats. A wet landing will see you disembark into the water just on the edge of the shore. Dry landings disembark directly onto the land. Snorkelling is often available, and on some ships kayaking is an option too. Group sizes on landings are up to 16 people. A set (by the national park authority) number of groups can land at each designated site each day.
